Update on The dot

You may have started to see elements like glass and pavers being installed at The dot (Development on Troy). These final steps bring us closer to the opening of the deck and street, with a grand opening targeted for September!

We are thrilled to see these resources come to life for the community. Additional parking, retail options, and space for pedestrians to enjoy downtown while social distancing will be key to our continued success as a shopping and dining destination.

Will The dot still be mixed use?

Definitely! While Covid-19 impacted the project timeline, we are actively receiving interest in the retail spaces that will be available along Troy Street. City leaders remain committed to the vision for office space and affordable housing and are working with our partners to adjust the implementation schedule.

Will The dot offer gathering space?

While the streetscapes will create a more enjoyable pedestrian experience, we are seeking feedback on the idea to close Troy Street to vehicles between Allen Street and the parking deck entrance. This could create space for small events/gatherings, or simply a place for pedestrians to enjoy some takeout from their favorite restaurant.

Closures could be all week, or just on weekends. Closing the street to vehicles could also create a place for extending our small retail businesses into the road, providing some resiliency for the holiday shopping season in the face of COVID-19.

What is the operating schedule and rate structure for the parking deck?

The deck will be staffed around the clock and follow the enforcement hours set for all downtown parking - Monday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. through midnight. There is no cost to park after midnight; on Sundays; and on holidays, election days, and other designated non-enforcement periods. Parking in The dot will be discounted to $.75 per hour from the standard rate of $1.00 per hour in the rest of the city.

Payment is contactless using the ParkFerndale mobile app or pay stations located throughout the deck.

Next Steps

Our highest priority remains completing the parking deck and reopening Troy Street as quickly as possible. A socially distanced grand opening is being planned for September to celebrate. We will share the details as soon as they are available.
